Welcome to syncPen. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us:

• Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile picture (if provided through OAuth).
• Content: Documents you create are stored on our servers, encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256) by our infrastructure providers. To provide features such as real-time collaboration, AI assistance, search, and publishing, our systems process the content of your documents. SyncPen is not end-to-end encrypted, so our systems can technically access document content to operate these features. We never sell your content, and we do not use it to train external AI models.
• Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our service, including access times and features used.
• Browser Extension Data: If you use the SyncPen Clipper extension, we collect the page title, URL, and selected text or page content you explicitly choose to clip. See section 5 for full details.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve our services
• Enable real-time collaboration features
• Send you technical notices and support messages
• Respond to your comments and questions
• Protect against fraudulent or illegal activity

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest using AES-256 by our infrastructure providers. Access to your documents is controlled by authentication and per-document permissions, so only you and the collaborators you invite can view or edit your content through the app. SyncPen is not end-to-end encrypted: to deliver real-time collaboration, AI features, search, and publishing, our servers process your document content. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction, and we never sell your content or use it to train external AI models.

5. SyncPen Clipper Browser Extension

The SyncPen Clipper is an optional Chrome browser extension that lets you save web content to your SyncPen account. This section describes its specific data practices, as required by the Chrome Web Store. You can install it from the Chrome Web Store.

• What the extension reads: When you explicitly trigger a save via the right-click context menu, the extension reads the page title, URL, meta description, favicon URL, and — depending on the action — your selected text, a chosen image URL, or a portion of the visible page text. The extension does not monitor your browsing passively; it only reads page content at the exact moment you initiate a clip.
• What is stored locally: Your SyncPen API key is stored in chrome.storage.sync (encrypted browser storage). It is used solely to authenticate clip requests to the SyncPen API and is never transmitted to any third party.
• What is sent to SyncPen servers: The clipped content (text, image URL, or page excerpt), together with the source page title and URL, is sent over HTTPS to the SyncPen API and saved as a document in your Inbox. No data is shared with third parties.
• What the extension does not do: It does not track browsing history, log keystrokes, capture screenshots, inject ads, or use remote code (no eval() or externally loaded scripts).
• Notifications: The extension uses the browser notification API solely to confirm a successful save or report an error. No notification data is collected or transmitted.

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

• With your consent or at your direction
• With collaborators you invite to your documents
• To comply with legal obligations or protect our rights
• With service providers who assist in operating our service

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access and receive a copy of your personal data
• Correct inaccurate personal data
• Request deletion of your personal data
• Export your documents at any time

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your session and preferences. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising purposes.
