Connectors

Connect Google Drive, Slack, Notion, and more so penFriend can read from them

Connectors let penFriend read from outside sources — Google Drive, Slack, Notion, World News API — and publish to WordPress, Ghost, or Sanity. Set them up in Settings → Connectors.

Google Drive, Slack, World News API

Click Connect next to the source. Google Drive and Slack use OAuth — you'll be sent to sign in and grant access, no extra setup needed. World News API asks for an API key instead.

Google Drive access is per-file, not whole-Drive — after connecting, click Select files and choose exactly what penFriend/MCP should be able to see. Nothing else in your Drive is visible until you pick it.

Notion

Notion needs one extra step before you can click Connect, because Syncpen doesn't have a shared Notion app the way it does for Google — each Syncpen account registers its own.

The most common snag

Notion has two integration types. An Internal integration only gives you a plain access token — no Client ID, and it can't be used here. You need a Public integration instead. "Public" just means it's capable of OAuth — it does not get listed anywhere, and nobody can access your workspace without you personally approving it on Notion's own consent screen.

Setting up Notion

  1. Go to notion.so/my-integrations and create a new integration — make sure it's the Public (OAuth) type, not Internal.
  2. Under Capabilities, enable at least Read content. Syncpen only reads from Notion today, so the write/insert and comment capabilities aren't needed.
  3. Add this exact Redirect URI:
    https://www.syncpen.io/api/connectors/notion/callback
  4. Copy the integration's Client ID and Client Secret.
  5. In Syncpen, go to Settings → Connectors → Notion → Set up, paste both in, and save.
  6. Click Connect. You'll land on Notion's own consent screen — pick which pages to share, and you're done.
Once connected

Ask penFriend (in Chat, or via MCP) to search or read from any connected source — for example, "search my Notion for the Q3 planning doc." Notion reads currently cover a page's top-level content only, not nested toggles or child pages.
